Kistefos

Visitor center with several activities for both young and old.
Kistefos as we know it today was established in 1996 by the Norwegian businessman and art collector Christen Sveaas. Christen is the grandson of Anders Sveaas who in his time founded A / S Kistefos Træsliberi, a company that produced wood pulp at Kistefos from 1889 to the mid-1950s. The machines and buildings have been preserved and today create a Living Factory for the visitors to Kistefos.

Kistefos offers The Twist, art exhibitions of international caliber, industrial history and an impressive sculpture park in scenic surroundings.
The sculpture park
Each year, the sculpture park is expanded with one or more sculptures and today contains 46 sculptures by prominent contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusma, Fernando Botero, Claes Oldenburg, Olafur Eliasson, Anish Kapoor, Jeppe Hein, Tony Cragg, and Elmgreen & Dragset. Many of the sculptures are made especially for Kistefos and are directly inspired by the area, nature and history of Kistefos.

The Twist is designed by the world-renowned architects in BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and will house changing art exhibitions of international caliber. The Twist is a gallery, a bridge and a sculpture in itself, and winds over the Randselva in a 60 meter long span. The building has attracted great international attention and among other things has been named museum of the year international 2019 by Designboom. The Twist reopens on May 24, 2020.
