The possibilities in the capital are endless. Here you will find everything from quiet park life, nice hiking areas, and fresh sea air to bustling restaurant and café life, active experiences, and cultural sights. There are activities for both young and old - and for the whole family together.
Oslo abounds with coffee shops, cafés, and restaurants. It can be difficult to know where to start. That's why we've put together some restaurant, bar, and café favorites for you.
You will find several family-friendly and pleasant restaurants along Aker Brygge, and they continue beyond Tjuvholmen. These places also offer great outdoor seating! There are several good restaurants and cafés in Bispevika and Barcode, and in Grønland you have many exciting opportunities - with food from most corners of the world. Around Youngstorget you will find many of the most popular bars, but also many good restaurants. Both the bars and restaurants continue up Grünerløkka.
No matter where you are in Oslo, you can find really good food. Here are some favorites:
For breakfast and lunch, you can eat healthy cakes, smoothie bowls, and various other things at plant-based Oslo Raw. At Liebling you get a lot of the same, but also great sandwiches brunch plates. Good Brød and Åpent Bakeri can be found in several places, and here they have both good coffee, delicious pastries, and fresh bread and rolls. At Vespa and Humla you can get a delicious brunch plate and at Handwerk, you get sourdough sandwiches and a selection of today's hot dishes and soups.
If you are only looking for a coffee on the go, you should stop by Stockfleths, Tim, Wendelboe, or Supreme Roastwork for the best coffee.
For a proper brunch/lunch meal, you can go to Grådi or Miss Sophie. Both places also serve dinner. If you are tempted by pizza, you should go to Girotondo on Youngstorget or Teatro in Stortingsgata. You get the best taco at Taco Republica, or you can try out Coyo. You get Asian fusion at Asia Aker Brygge or Südøst. More expensive and even better Asian fusion can be found at Hanami. If you want to try out some Japanese small dishes, Izakaya is fantastic! If you go to Oslo Streetfood on Youngstorget or Vippa on Vippetangen, you can pick and choose among all the food trucks. Here you will find food from Greece, Mexico, Morocco, and Syria - to name a few. If you are looking for a luxurious dining experience, you can take a trip to the bistro Le Benjamin, Alex Sushi, or the Ekeberg restaurant - which by the way has the best restaurant view in Oslo. At Arakataka and Kontrast you can get a tasting menu with fantastic quality.
If the children are joining the restaurant, Pincho Nation is going to be a huge success - where you order several small dishes through an app. You get popcorn as an appetizer and they have drinks with sweets on. The Nighthawk Diner is also a hit for the kids, with burgers, pancakes, and shakes! If pizza sounds more tempting, the kids will love the one you get at Villa Paradiso, and for burgers go to Døgnvill Burger. Otherwise, Oslo Streetfood and Vippa are cool experiences for the children, where they can choose between all the food trucks.
If the craving for sweets creeps in, go to Paradis to get gelato (Italian ice cream). You can find it on Sørenga and Tjuvholmen. Or you can buy sumptuous donuts at TalorMade in Bispevika or My Ugly Baby at Yougstorget.
For drinks, you can visit the Eight Rooftop bar at the top of the Grand Hotel. At Nedre Løkka Cocktailbar and Torggata Botaniske you get really nice drinks, while Håndslag, Angst and Dattera til Hagen have nice backyards where you can enjoy your drinks. The atmosphere there is also relaxing and good. If you want to experience the best backyard in Oslo, go to Prinsens hage - the Prince's garden - there you will experience ta real summer atmosphere!
Or maybe you want a real afternoon tea experience? You get that at A.C. Perch's Thehandler in Kirkegata.
