Stegastein viewing platform

Stegastein's viewpoint over the Aurlandsfjord is an architectural attraction in itself, in addition to the absolutely stunning view. The 13 meter high structure stands on the edge of a cliff!

Stegastein Viewing Platform over the Aurland Fjord is an architectural masterpiece, as well as host to some utterly magnificent views. The award-winning construction is made of laminated wood and steel, and brings visitors 30 meters out into the air. The four meter wide and 30 meter long protuberance in a steel support system clad with solid impregnated pine.

The viewpoint is located on Aurland Road, 6 km from Aurland. The viewpoint is 650 metres above sea level, and offers panoramic views of the Aurland Fjord and Aurland. The building was designed by architects Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen. The construction was opened in 2006.



With Highway/Riksvei 7 as your starting point, you will have several options for fantastic round-trips in spectacular surroundings. We can highly recommend a tour of the stunning fjords and mountains, - - we believe it is the most spectacular day trip in Norway! This route lets you experience the Aurland Fjord, Flåm, Laerdal and Hol in one day. Get in the car and drive over Hemsedal and on to beautiful Laerdal. Stop by Borgund Stave Church and a take walk in Sverrestigen. From there carry on to Aurland - stop at the modernistic view platform with panoramic views over the stunningly beautiful fjord by Gudvangen. Next stop could be Flåm in the inner corner of the fjord. If you start early and plan your timing you can even go on the Flåmsbana railway. Afterwards you drive homewards by Hol, with its beautiful church.
