Experience the colorful fall in Mandal and the surrounding area. These activities are suitable for everyone.

Catch it if You Can

Around Mandal, there are several fishing opportunities, both in the sea and in freshwater. It’s a great activity to relax in nature and feel a sense of accomplishment when you get a catch.

Try your luck with cod, saithe, pollock, halibut, and mackerel through sea fishing, or cast your line in one of the freshwater lakes to catch trout, pike, perch, or Arctic char. In the Lindesnes region, you can also try salmon fishing. Remember that a permit or fishing license is required.

Lindesnes Lighthouse

Lindesnes Lighthouse is actually Norway's southernmost mainland point, and is the third most visited attraction in Vest-Agder, after Kristiansand Zoo and Sørlandsbadet. In fact, as many as 80,000 people visit each year.

The view around the tower is spectacular! Lindesnes Lighthouse is just as impressive in bright sunshine as it is when nature shows its forces. Make sure to catch the sunset from the beautiful mountain plateau.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping in Bjelland

In Bjelland, about 40 minutes from Mandal, you can really get your heart racing. Adventure Norway offers a variety of exciting activities. Including Via Ferrata, rafting in the Mandalselva river, kayaking or kayaking courses, paintball, and rappelling. They even offer moose safaris!

Charming Mandal Town Center

Mandal has a charming old town where white wooden houses line the narrow streets. It’s just as delightful year-round. There are many cozy niche shops in the town, along with several nice places to sit down when hunger strikes. You'll find a variety of eateries, offering everything from burgers and pizza to seafood and delicious baked goods.

Family Time at Kristiansand Zoo

Kristiansand Zoo is the ultimate destination for families with children. The park is open year-round, although the activities change somewhat with the seasons. Not only can you see cute, funny, and scary animals from all over the world, but you can also experience "Scary Days" during the fall break, as well as the log flume, car track, safari ride, and tractor track.

Surfing og kiting

The rougher weather in the fall makes surfing and kiting at Lista a popular activity. They offer surf courses if you need some training before jumping into the water. You can even surf at the beach on Topcamp Sjøsanden!

Sørlandsbadet Water Park

One place where you probably won’t need training is at Sørlandsbadet in Lyngdal. Here, you can spend hours swimming in the pools, having fun on the water slides, and jumping from the diving boards. A great activity for the whole family.

Under Restaurant

In Spangereid, you'll find this unique underwater restaurant. An experience unlike most others! Be sure to book early if you want to enjoy a meal with a window view of marine life.

Great Hiking Opportunities

There may not be towering, majestic mountains in Southern Norway, but there are still plenty of beautiful hikes. Pack your backpack with a good lunch and some hot cocoa!

For example, there are several nice hikes in Lyngdal, along the coast, fjords, and in the mountains. Skrelia is a lovely hike just a short drive from Lyngdal's center. Vedefjell offers views of the entire coastline from Lindesnes to Farsund, and Skopteland is a short and pleasant hike where you can enjoy your packed meal in the day-trip cabin.

In addition, the beautiful Furulunden is right next to Topcamp Sjøsanden. A stunning pine forest, offering several trails, beaches and cliffs. Make sure to hike to the top of Hobdetoppen for some views over the archipelago.

Scenic Views from Uranienborg

Don’t miss Uranienborg when you’re in Mandal. The hike up is short — around ten minutes — but the colorful view is unbeatable.

From the town center, right next to the restaurant SMOI, you walk up a staircase and continue uphill until you reach the small peak and the Uranienborg viewpoint. It’s a beautiful lookout spot with views over all of Mandal, Furulunden, and the archipelago.

During the sailing ship era, this was the lookout where wives and children would climb to watch for their husbands and fathers as the ships came in.
