Did you think Grimstad was just a summer town? Think twice! The city is close to all the fantastic opportunities that Southern Norway has to offer year-round.

Family Fun at Kristiansand Zoo

Kristiansand Zoo, just 25 minutes from Grimstad, is the ultimate destination for both those with and without children. Visit Kardemomme Town, the animals in Hakkebakkeskogen, and of course, all the cute, funny, and spooky animals.

The park offers plenty of other activities as well. Try the log ride, ride the Jungle Bob, play at the playground and climbing course, and experience "Scary Days" during the fall break.

Grimstad Town Center

Grimstad’s town center offers a variety of great shops, including fashion, accessories, home décor, and more. Stroll through the charming cobblestone streets, alleys, and squares.

The traditional white Southern Norwegian houses line the pedestrian street. Sit down at a cozy café and check out some of the local shops. Grimstad has a rich selection of food and drinks, with many excellent dining options.

You can also follow in Henrik Ibsen’s footsteps. Visit the place where he worked and wrote his first plays.

Go Fishing!

Grimstad offers plenty of fishing opportunities, both in the sea and in freshwater. It’s a great way to relax in nature and experience the satisfaction of getting a bite.

Try your luck with cod, saithe, pollock, and mackerel while sea fishing, or cast your line in one of the freshwater lakes for trout, pike, or perch. Grimstad is also known for great chances to catch sea trout! Remember to stay updated on recreational fishing regulations and fishing permits.

Hiking and Coastal Nature

The beautiful nature in and around Grimstad offers great opportunities for cycling, hiking, boating, and more.

Don’t miss Raet National Park, which covers 607 square kilometers of coastal nature and ocean, with diverse marine habitats, beaches, heather moors, and pebble shores.

The "Kongeveien" (King’s Road) is perfect for those who want an idyllic bike ride through deciduous forests, past small lakes, and over bridges. The trail is mostly closed to cars.

If you’re a fan of literature and culture, Hamsun's walking path might be your cup of tea! You can follow in the footsteps of Knut Hamsun, as described in his work On Overgrown Paths.

Hiking maps are available on UT.no.

Experience the Archipelago from a Kayak

If you really want to glide through the archipelago, you can rent a kayak. At BUA Grimstad, you can borrow all the equipment you need for a fantastic trip on the water.

Interactive Fun at the Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum in Grimstad is the perfect family activity. The museum features a modern exhibition on the maritime history of Grimstad and Aust-Agder.

There are several interactive activities along the way, making it a great spot for children. The building also has a museum shop and a café.

The Maritime Museum is open during the fall break.

Be Charmed by an Alpaca Walk

This is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults. Midt-Tjore Farm offers walks with cute and funny alpacas. The walk lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Before the walk, you’ll receive an introduction to the alpacas, and you'll also get to meet the even cuter alpaca babies.

In summer, it's a good idea to book your walk in advance, as spots fill up quickly.
