Fall experiences in Hallingdal

The leaves turn red and orange, and the air becomes clearer. The mountain village of Ål may be even more impressive in the fall. From Topcamp Hallingdal, you can experience all the best the area has to offer.

Horseback Riding in the Mountains

Join a horseback ride from Skarslia up to Bergsjø. The trip takes around 2 hours. If you want to explore other parts of the mountains, there are options for both half-day and full-day trips. This is a wonderful experience if you'd like to see Hallingdal and the mountain scenery at its best.

The tours are organized by Hestur on Icelandic horses.

On the Bike

Hallingdal is a cycling paradise! Trail biking with Ål Adventure is an extreme experience. You can borrow an electric bike, and a guide will take you up the mountain, where you'll be greeted with the most incredible views.

The ride down is, of course, the most fun part. You just have to trust that the bike will get you safely down. You ride at your own pace.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

Are you the adventurous type? How about pushing your limits with rafting in the river or trying the Via Ferrata trail in Hemsedal? Remember to dress for the rugged fall weather.

Serious Fun offers an exhilarating rafting experience in Dagali. There are various difficulty levels, making it a fun activity for children and adults alike. There are different levels, so both beginners and the most daring can have a thrilling experience.

Experienced guides from Hemsedal Fjellsport will take you on the Via Ferrata in Hemsedal. The route features steep cliffs and narrow ledges, but you'll be guided through it in a safe and secure way.

Fresh Air and Stunning Nature

The mountains are at their most beautiful when painted with fall colors. We recommend hiking the Sherpa steps, which ascend from Hol. It's 2,000 steps up to Hallingskarvet. Other great hikes include Lauvdalsbrea and Iungsdalen, where you can walk to the tourist cabin Iungsdalshytta to enjoy traditional Norwegian dishes like rømmegrøt (sour cream porridge) or sveler (pancakes). On the west side of the village, you'll find Dyna, another excellent hike. In addition, there are several shorter routes closer to the town center, such as Sundreberget and Nasakamben.

Family Day at Langedrag and Bjørneparken

Langedrag's philosophy is: "Nature is our best teacher." As a visitor, you’ll experience this firsthand. They care for a variety of wild animals and the most primitive breeds of domestic animals. They have around 300 animals, representing 20 different species. You can meet wolves, arctic foxes, lynxes, moose, reindeer, fjord horses, mouflon sheep, and Telemark cattle, among others.

Bjørneparken has a wide range of Norwegian predators, wild animals, and farm animals. They also feature Norway's largest crocodile exhibit, with 30 crocodiles, snakes, and other exotic animals. The park closes for the season in October.

Both parks are about an hour's drive from Ål.

When in Doubt, Fish!

With around 50 fishing lakes in Ål, the destination is ideal for fishing enthusiasts. You can catch your own mountain trout for dinner — in both rivers and mountain lakes. Fishing permits can be purchased from boxes located in the terrain or on the way into the area. You can also buy permits online. The Bergsjø area, Iungsdalen, and Fødalen are recommended spots, but you can also fish in Hallingselva, which flows right past Topcamp Hallingdal. In winter, you can even go ice fishing in what is considered Southern Norway's best ice-fishing lakes, Vatsfjorden and Rødungen Nord.
